About

Name: Char
Age: 22
Taking Up: Informatics (think Computer Science) at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada
Nationality: Filipino

Hobbies and Interests:

Anime: Started watching anime since I was in my early years of elementary with Daimos, Voltes V, G-Force, Voltron and of course, Sailor Moon. I did not consider myself an anime fan nor knew of the concept until the end of 6th grade (’97) when I started watching Gundam Wing and Evangelion. Been watching anime ever since ^_^

Manga: Knew nothing about manga until High school when I started collecting Card Captor Sakura and X in Japanese and Chinese. Didn’t like any of the English translated manga at that time and they were too expensive.

Video Games: Started with the all-time classic Super Mario Bros. on the Family computer when I was a wee little girl. Fell in love with RPGs starting with Final Fantasy VIII then got Chrono Cross, FFVII and Suikoden II. I also play action games such as Tomb Raider and the Metal Gear Solid series as well as action-RPGs like Kingdom Hearts and Parasite Eve (didn’t like 2, can’t wait for 3!) Currently playing Crisis Core (a bit of a disappointment for me honestly), Disgaea for the PSP and Metal Gear Online ♥.

Illustration: Have been drawing ever since I could remember. I’ve had different styles over the years, emulating those of artists I admire. Sailor Moon is what got me started drawing in the style that eventually evolved into what my style is now.

History of “Picchar”:

In my high school batch’s yearbook, each student has a little blurb about what her classmates think will happen in her future. Mine happened to be something like: “Will take over Pixar and rename it Picchar!”

Looks like that’s one of the predictions that won’t come true. Though I would love to work for/at Pixar ^_^

Picchar.Wordpress.com:

I’ve actually been blogging since 4th year highschool (2003-4), but mostly about my day-to-day life. Not that my life is empty, but it felt like it lacked something. I stopped blogging nearly two years ago after I moved to Canada from the Philippines. That was also around the time I felt like I was losing a part of myself. I did a bit of reflecting and realized that I wasn’t doing what I loved to do, which was watch anime, read manga, play video games and draw.

That had to change. And it did, thanks to a number of hours staring at the ceiling and to my wuv <3

I decided to start a blog again after I re-discovered DannyChoo.com (stumbled onto the site twice or so within 2-3 years but I didn’t like the UI/layout ^_^’ Sorry Danny!). I was searching for sites about figures after I got back from my trip to the Philippines with my figure loot. I wanted to find out what other figures are worth buying and which online stores I could buy them from because, unfortunately, my parents decided to move to Halifax where the only store that sells figures is a local videogame/comic store and all they have are Marvel/US figures except for MGS4 figures (Raiden and Old Snake with mask). DC.com showed me that sharing information, ideas and opinions on one’s interests is an enjoyable and worthwhile activity. My posts here will fall under: figure photography, anime, manga, videogames, illustrations, among others.

Ever since I had the idea of starting Picchar, I knew that I would eventually move out of WordPress.com because of the restrictions it has on its users. I wanted to be able to modify the look and feel of my site while still being able to use the wonderful features of WordPress. I didn’t want to pay to be able to simply edit the css of my layout so I searched for free hosting.

I found a couple sites and applied to them, namely Dasaku and Celestial-Star. I didn’t get any reply from the former, which I kind of expected but I was pleasantly surprised to be accepted as a hostee. Yay! :D

I uploaded a bunch of themes and plugins but only started to really edit and modify the layout this week. I narrowed the sidebars and removed the big orange box which hurts the eyes after a while. The official date of my move is on December 12, 2008.

Hope you enjoy my site!
